After a life filled with tragedy, rocker Gabriel Gunn thinks he's finally getting the better of his personal demons. Then he's attacked after a concert—and rescued by a warrior goddess brandishing a sword and white wings. As hard as it is to believe in an angelic bodyguard, Gabriel must face an even more impossible truth: he carries the devil's soul within him.

Amelia has been watching over Gabriel for years, using her angelic powers to prevent Lucifer's return. Now she must also protect him from warring angel factions with their own agendas. Amelia would do anything to avert another angelic war, even sacrifice her own emotions to avoid temptation. Yet with Gabriel she feels things she no longer wants to deny, and pleasure she never imagined.

But the closer Gabriel and Amelia get, the stronger Lucifer becomes. Will Amelia be forced to kill the man she's come to love to stop the war she's always feared?

Cover Reveal: Surrender by Lee Nichols

It's time to start the cover reveal for Lee Nichols newest HAUNTING EMMA novel, SURRENDER. I'm really happy to be one of the seven bloggers that are taking part in this event. Big thanks to Lee Nichols, the author and Dee at Good Choice Reading for organizing everything! Before I show you my piece of the puzzle, I had a chance to ask Lee Nichols a question about her writing process. Here's what I wanted to know:

RMM: Many authors are now blogging the playlists they have while writing a book. Is there a particular song/album that you found yourself listening to as a representation of Emma's character? Or a song/album that you regularly played while you wrote the Haunting Emma novels?

LN: I listened to Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid album a lot. It's got some great romantic songs on it. And whenever I thought Emma needed to kick butt I liked to listen to Bumpy Knuckles rap I'm a Bad Bad Man (I just loved the refrain) and Bob Schneider's C'mon Baby.

Ok, so let's get down to business. Just in case you need a reminder, here are the first two covers in the series:

And, here's my little peek at the new cover:

Guess what else? Lee Nichols is giving away a signed copy of all THREE books in the series! Just visit each blog hosting a piece of the cover, and fill out the form. Mine is below. The final unveiling of the complete cover will take place at Good Choice Reading at 3PM today, 7.15, so don't miss that!

Here are the other blogs participating. Each one will show a portion of the cover:

1 (This is the one thing that I wish I had done more of)

I'm pretty satisfied with what I was able to read over the 3 days. The last day was the hardest for me, because I was side-lined by a migraine. I ended up wanting to read more, but not being well enough to do it. But, that's how life goes sometimes, and I am just happy that I feel like I was able to come close to the goal that I set. I definitely had fun, and I liked keeping tabs on the #oureadathon hashtag on twitter.

Once again, thanks to Angela, Lori and Candace for hosting!

Pandora's Box by Katie Salidas Blitz + Giveaway

It's release day for Katie Salidas newest book in the Immortalis series! I'm happy to be part of a book blitz to promote PANDORA'S BOX, because I recently had the opportunity to read and review the two previous books in this series, and found both to be a great addition to the darker, urban fantasy genre.

Katie and the Virtual Book Tour Cafe are hosting a fabulous release day tour that includes the chance to win a signed print copy of PANDORA'S BOX, if you visit and comment on each tour stop.

About the Author
The youngest of four children, Katie has always had a desire to entertain. Since, early childhood, she's dreamed fantastical characters and scribbled them into pages of various journals and notebooks. Taking an interest in vampires, she devoured every book, featuring those blood sucking creatures, in any genre she could find.
It was only natural that a love of reading vampire stories, turned into a love to write them.

Katie is also a Las Vegas native, having grown up in the famed City of Sin. She loves to feature it as a recurring setting for many of her stories.

See my reviews of the first 2 books in the series:
Immortalis Book #1: Carpe Noctem
Immortalis Book #2: Hunters and Prey

Pandora's Box (Immortalis Book #3)

Alyssa thought, after a few months as a vampire, that she’d learned all she needed about the supernatural world. But all that will change when a mysterious package shows up on her doorstep - a Pandora's box. An ancient prison, created by powerful magic, the box was used to trap the most dangerous and deadly creatures on earth.

Once opened, it releases an ancient evil, with an insatiable lust for vampire blood. Within moments of its release it the feeding frenzy begins.

Alyssa must find a way to return the creature to the box. If she doesn’t, it will not only destroy her clan, but the rest of the vampires in existence.

Here at Read My Mind, I am giving away an e-copy of PANDORA'S BOX! Just fill out this form (or see below) to enter. Comment for +1 extra entry, and be entered to win a print copy, as well. Remember, this is a ONE DAY book blitz, so for your entry to count, you must enter before 11:59pm, July 12 EDT.

Make sure you check out the other stops on the tour. Happy Release Day, Katie!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Mini-Challenge and Update #2

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon
I'm doing another mini-challenge!
This one is hosted by Casey at The Bookish Type. Her challenge is:

Pick any book from your readathon pile and write a fake synopsis based solely on the cover. The synopsis does not have to be related to the actual book at all, just the pretty, pretty cover.

What happens in Vegas, Stays is Vegas is no longer true as Joanna Archer knows what evil and monsters exist alongside the human race. She's mortal, but she wasn't always, and her creepy eyes let the bad dudes know that she is the hunter and they the prey. When the sun goes down, the leather jumpsuit comes out, along with the wicked short sword that Joanna uses to carve through her enemies. Humanity needs her... to be badass.

And now, for an update of my progress

Book Review: Love on the Big Screen by William J. Torgerson

Book: LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN
Author: WILLIAM J. TORGERSON
Genre: LITERARY FICTION
Published: February 2011, CHEROKEE MCGHEE

Series: none
Source: Author, no other compensation given for an honest review

From Good Reads:
Meet Zuke, a college freshman whose understanding of love has been shaped by late-eighties romantic comedies, and who attends a school so strict it's against the rules to go to the movies. Zuke and his buddies, separated from the women on campus and forced to entertain themselves, form a club called the Brothers in Pursuit, which holds weekly meetings during which all the members dress in matching and embroidered boxer shorts, stand at attention to Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," and report back to one another on their objectives: God,
knowledge, compassion, and women. Love on the Big Screen is a novel of friendship, the dangers of romanticized love, the complexities of faith and real life, and what happens to one young man as he finds out that life is nothing like the movies he loves.

My Review:
I had the chance to meet the author of LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN, William J. Torgerson, at the Book Blogger Convention this past May. I'm not going to lie, how he was able to sum up his book, as well as speak intelligently without sounding like outright pitching really went a long way toward my decision to request a review copy. The blurb did the rest.

Having grown up with the same understanding of how Zuke was influenced by the Brat Pack (and other) movies of the 80's, I had no trouble connecting with this character. Torgerson tells his story in a way that is engaging and absorbing. The reader is given a glimpse into the life of a college male that actually seems to believe in love... because that's what the movies always show.

Torgerson opens up the male psyche with his creation of Zuke and the Brothers In Pursuit. The relationships that form between Zuke and his friends as they attempt their "quest" gave me, as a female reader, a very refreshing look behind the usual postering, alpha male behavior that we are usually subject to between the pages and in real life.

The best part about LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN is that it explores some heavier themes: heartbreak, love, exploration, faith, and the search for enlightenment, but even still, I really had fun reading it. I wasn't bogged down in too much existential ponderings that it took me out of the story, or stopped me from enjoying the ride. I would go so far as to say that LOVE ON THE BIG SCREEN was a perfect book to read for the summer, because I was able to reminisce about my youth as I was reading, and it provided an entertaining escape.

4.5/5 for plot
4.5/5 for characters
4/5 for language

My Rating: 13/15 (4 stars) Highly Recommend

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Update

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon
I am so happy with the progress I've made so far! Like I said in my starting post, I really want to challenge myself, so I have put myself to the task of reading at least 3 books/day, and more if I can. Here's some of the stats that I have so far in the OUReadAThon:

Books Read Completely:

Turn It Up by Inez Kelley (373 pages)
Falling Under by Gwen Hayes (324 pages)

Completed Books Total Page Count:

697

Total Hours Read So Far:

Check out my starting post to see what books I'm challenging myself with, and a quick look at my progress. Want to know what challenges I participated in? See my challenge post #1. Leave a comment, if you are participating in the read-a-thon, and I'll visit some blogs later to spread a little cheerleading pep.

Thanks to Angela at Reading Angel, Lori at Pure Imagination and Candace at Candace's Book Blog for hosting this fabulous read-a-thon!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Mini-Challenge #1

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This mini-challenge is hosted by Bailey at IB Book Blogging. She asks:

Mini Challenge Question 1:
What is your favorite type of myth (Greek, Roman, Egyptian etc)?

Honestly, I find myself being drawn to myths from all cultures. However, I do find myself liking creation myths above others.

Mini Challenge Question 2:
What is your favorite book with some type of mythology in it?

Oddly enough, one of the first books that I read and completed for this read-a-thon was FALLING UNDER by Gwen Hayes, which is reminiscent of the Hades/Persephone myth, and I really enjoyed reading it.

I'm not sure that I could choose one favorite, but I've been reading a good amount of YA books lately that deal with mythology. Of these recent reads, I absolutely loved DARKNESS BECOMES HER by Kelly Keaton. Another recent read, in which the world-building was fantastic was the adult urban fantasy by Jenna Black, DARK DESCENDANT.

Now, I'm off to take a short lunch break, and then I'm going right back to reading. If you are participating in the read-a-thon, leave a comment. I'll be sure to check back in, so if you want to leave a link to your challenge or update post, I'll come visit during my next break!

HBG #8: Listen AND Read YA

I've talked about my new love of audiobooks before on the blog, and even had a June Is Audiobook Month giveaway. I know that many people are still wary of trying them out. Hey, buying an audiobook from the bookstore is EXPENSIVE! But, my library has a really extensive collection of playaways (audiobooks loaded onto an mini player sort of device, where headphones can be plugged in to listen.) and I am a member of Audible, so I really get a good deal. If you missed out on, or didn't win my June Is Audiobook Month Giveaway, here is your chance to try out an audiobook by a fabulous YA author.

Don't like what you hear? Can't follow the story just by listening? The winner will win an audiobook of Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson AND a print paperback!

Want to win? Rules:

1. Must be 13+
2. All HBG Giveaways end on July 12, 6pm EDT
4. Comment with the last audiobook you listened to, or a book you think would be good to listen to.

HBG #7: The Smouldering Paranormal Urban Fantasy

Had some issues uploading pictures to Blogger for a couple of days, but another Happy Birthday Giveaway is here! This one is for the adults, and it's a book that I really enjoyed.

I have a copy of Primal Bonds by Jennifer Ashley. This is the second book in the Shifters Unbound series, but can be read without the first, Pride Mates. There is a different hero/heroine at the forefront, and the relationships that exist in the first book are explained well here. However, I suggest checking out Pride Mates beforehand, JUST BECAUSE it is such a good novel, and Primal Bonds seems much richer for having been immersed in the lives of the Shiftertown residents previously.

Warrior's Witch by Stacey Kennedy E-Book Winner

Prize: One winner receives an e-book copy of A Warrior's Witch by Stacey Kennedy.

Winner: Krystal (edysicecreamlover18@...)

Congrats Krystal! I'll be forwarding your email information to the tour organizer, so that you can redeem your prize.

If you didn't win this time, please be sure to check out all of the contests that I have stickied above the main post section of Read My Mind. At the moment, I am in the middle of my Happy Birthday Giveaway, with 6 prize packs listed already, and more to come!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon Starting Line

Once Upon a Read-a-ThonI'm going to be participating in this read-a-thon next week! This post will serve as the landing spot for my activities. Right now, I'm not quite sure what books I want to read, but I do know that I am going to really challenge myself. Unlike some read-a-thons that only last 24 or 36 hours, there is enough time here for me to really dig in and accomplish something.

Because of the nature of my job, I end up having much time free, when everyone else is at their 9-5, so actually the best part, is the fact that this takes place during the week. I won't have as many distractions, and I can feel like I am doing something productive with my free time.

I'll come back to this page over the weekend to update it with my list of books, so if you're taking part also, Good Luck!

HBG #6: The Historical Romance

My Happy Birthday Giveaway is more than halfway over with this post, but I still have great books to give away. After the last few contests that involved YA books, I'm going to switch things up. What's up for grabs today is Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart by Sarah MacLean. I absolutely adore her Love By Numbers series, and this is the third.

Haven't tried historical romance before? This is the perfect book to get you started. It's smart, has a multi-dimentional hero and heroine, some absurd but funny "meet-cutes", and tackles a story-line that would have been scandalous at the time.

I also have two romantically saucy door signs featuring the Love By Numbers book covers, which I picked up at BEA. They'll be included in the prize pack. Want a closer look? Here you go.
